There are a lot of stunning beaches throughout the Caribbean, and those in Nevis and St. Kitts wouldn’t be at the top of my list. However, Pinney’s Beach in Nevis, and Cockleshell Beach on St. Kitts, are the best on these islands.
We spent an afternoon at Pinney’s Beach which is on the western Caribbean coast of Nevis. It is a long sandy beach, spanning over four miles, which made for some lengthy walks and a good dog-run for Gracie. The beach is not fine white sand like the beaches on some other Caribbean islands; rather, it has a golden hue with a blend of sand and tiny shells. It was still easy to walk on and a picturesque stretch of land.
The beach is lined with coconut palms and the water is a beautiful shade of blue. It’s best to visit on a sunny day so the full extent of the clear, clean, turquoise waters will shine their brightest. The beach wasn’t crowded at all when we were there, but I understand it gets more populated when cruise ships are in port in St. Kitts and the day boats stop by for a visit.
There are several restaurants along the beach, as well as chair and umbrella rentals. A local told me that the food at Sunshine’s beach restaurant is his favorite, but we didn’t go there. Instead, we took a nice leisurely walk with Ken and Lynn to the Four Season’s Resort where we were permitted to roam the plush beachfront property, nestled among lush vegetational and a serene backdrop.
But Nevis Peak in the background, with the moon hanging over it, and the sun setting in the foreground, was an even more magnificent sight!
We enjoyed cold mango iced teas in one of the outdoor cabanas overlooking the ocean at sunset. What a refreshing way to end the day! We felt pampered being at this fine resort — and we didn’t even have to pay for a stay. We’ve learned that most of the high-end resorts are happy to have guests visit their properties to enjoy drinks or a meal, and that’s quite a treat for us!
The thing that makes Pinney beach so special is the view of Mt. Nevis in the foreground and of St. Kitts’ Mount Liamuiga in the background. It’s a rare opportunity to enjoy a four-mile stretch of beach overlooking the Caribbean Sea, with such incredible volcanic island views! Simply stunning!
