We only spent one night at Great Guana Cay and woke up to a beautiful morning, ready to set sail again!
Our plan was to head to Marsh Harbour on Great Abaco Island, about an hour-long boat ride to the south side of the Sea of Abaco. Marsh Harbour is the largest town in the Abacos, and the third largest in The Bahamas. Leonard M. Thompson International Airport is located in Marsh Harbour and is the primary arrival point for tourists visiting The Abacos. There are quite a few restaurants, inns, hardware, grocery, and marine stores located here. It’s a good place to get supplies.
After being in The Bahamas for exactly one month, it was time for a re-provisioning trip. Since we had been in Marsh Harbour a few times in the past, we knew this would be a good place to stock up on groceries. Abaco Grocers is like a mini-Costco, and they carry many of the Kirkland brand products directly from Costco. The prices are double what you would pay in the US for most items, but we found some good deals on a few items there. Maxwell’s is my favorite. It is a large grocery store, very comparable to what you would find in the United States. You can pretty much find whatever you need. The prices are still higher than the US, but that’s to be expected anywhere in The Bahamas.
We stocked up on items like cheese, meat, almond milk, oatmeal, butter, avocados, bananas, apples, yogurt, tuna fish, tortilla chips, and chocolate! Between the two stores, there was plenty to restock our cupboards and fridges. This should last us for a good while!
We only stayed one night in Marsh Harbour with plans to head south the next morning. Our provisioning mission was accomplished. We put away the groceries, I did some meal prep for the next few days, and made a nice dinner with baked cod, roasted potatoes, and mixed veggies.
