Ravages in Prickly Bay & Beyond

Two days after Hurricane Beryl had passed, we motored back to our prior anchorage at Prickly Bay. It was sobering to see the damage from the hurricane. Sadly, this is minimal compared to the destruction on the north side of Grenada.

The devastation is widespread, particularly on Grenada’s sister islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, as well as on Saint Vincent and The Grenadine islands. It will be a long time before these places are rebuilt and for life to return to a new normal. One of my favorite videos showing the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl is by journalist Jonathan Petramala who was the only journalist on the island of Carriacou when Beryl struck it with a vengeance. This video shows him walking around the island after the hurricane and talking to the people about their experience and the impact it has had on their lives. Amazingly, many of the people still have smiles on their faces, as they are just so grateful to be alive.
