Fender Races in Florida

Some good family friends joined our family for a week-long adventure in southern Florida. We motor-sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to Elliot Key to spend the week in Biscayne National Park. Elliot Key is located along the northernmost part of the true Florida Keys and is the largest key north of Key Largo. We also spent time in Boca Chita, a spectacular nature preserve with an artistic 65-foot lighthouse marking the entrance to a quaint harbor. The weather was beautiful in the Keys and the waters were a glassy green. We all had an enjoyable and refreshing time!

On one of our evenings, Kory and I thought it would be fun to teach the younger ones how to tie a fender to a lifeline using the clove hitch knot. After allowing them time to practice, we decided to put their skills to a test with a fender tying race. The fastest one to tie his or her fender properly using the clove hitch knot would be the winner. Watch the races to see who won!
